About us

Homedoor is the certified NPO organization established in 2010.
Our vision is to build a social structure with an EXIT
allowing people
to escape from homelessness.

We are solving the social issues which make it difficult for homeless people to get out of poverty.
We also believe that the
society as a whole still has a prejudice against them.
We try to improve such social environment by carrying out "6 challenges."

6 Challenges

1
Deliver
We deliver the information about us through 'Night Patrol' and advertisements at places such as Internet Cafe and convinience store.
2
Provide Various Options
We prepare various options by building partnerships with other organizations. By talking to each individual during assessment, we offer as many suitable options as possible for them.
3
Support Daily Life
We support people's everyday life by providing a place where people feel secure and comfortable to stay. For example, we have an emergency shelter where people can sleep. We also hold events including free lunch day and health care services.
4
Respond to Needs
We provide work opportunities. For instance, we have launched share cycling service called HUBchari which can make use of what homeless people are good at. We also play a role as a bridge connecting people in need of work and employers. If it is needed, we also provide support for money management.
5
Lasting Support
We try to build a long-term relationship with people. We support people to find a new housing. Our volunteers also help them to move in and transfer furniture. Even after they find a new job, we keep in touch and support them while they adjust to new lifestyle.
6
Spread
There is still prejudice against homeless people in the society. The society attributes the cause of homelessness to people's laziness while, in fact, the society itself and its structure are responsible for the problem. We try to inform the society and spread correct knowledge through lectures and workshops.

Our Activities

Because now I am aware of the issue,
I have a responsibility to act

'Night Patrol'

16 times/year
Since 2013, we carry out 'Night Patrol' once a month (twice a month during winter) with our volunteers. During 'Night Patrol,' we walk around Osaka-shi Kita-ku area to deliver food for approximately 85 persons, daily necessities such as toothbrush and disposable hot pack, as well as the information about us. From 2019, we have been doing patrols during day-time as well.

Assessment

1,100 persons/year
Approximately 1,100 persons reach us for help and support in 2020. The number of clients has been increasing for the past few years. Some of the clients directly visit our office while others contact us through call or e-mail. During assessment, our social workers assess clients' situations and offer suitable options for them.

Shelter

18 rooms
For the people who do not have a place to stay, we offer a room for free. We have 18 rooms available, and all of them are private with its own toilet and shower. We also offer foods and daily necessities such as clothes and toothbrushes. Our shelter takes a role as a "transitional housing" which provides temporary housing for people before they move in to permanent housing.

Work Opportunities

200 persons
We have provided work opportunities for more than 200 persons. We have various options available for those who want to work including job at our own business called HUBchari and job outsourced by the government. We have also obtained the License of Charged Employment Placement Business, and we have matched and introduced people to employers based on skills and needs.
